The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a framework of Award participation that engages and empowers all young people in Australia to explore their potential. The Award is a flexible program for all young people between the ages of 14 and 25 to participate in a number of activities over a set length of time.

It is entirely voluntary and is structured so the participants can design their own unique program centered around their interests and passions.

There are three levels to The Duke of Ed:  Bronze/Silver/Gold, these are set up so that they can piggy-back onto common activities, such as surf life saving, playing sport, plaing in a band. Or, you can start something you've always dreamed of doing but haven't had the reason to begin.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award participants are expected to:

  • strive to achieve their full potential.
  • embark on a journey of self discovery.
  • develop leadership, self-understanding, confidence, optimism and a commitment to personal achievement.
  • extend their capacity and skills in, analysis, problem solving,
  • communication, collaboration, organisation and teamwork.
  • exercise judgment and accept responsibility for their actions
