The Global Poverty Project's vision is a world without extreme poverty within a generation.
The organisation has partnered with The Co-operative to identify, train and mobilise UK Global Poverty Ambassadors across the UK in 2012.
What is a Global Poverty Ambassador?
Global Poverty Ambassadors are leaders in their communities who wants to take meaningful action in the fight against extreme poverty and lead their community in this fight. The Global Poverty Ambassador programme is a project of the Global Poverty Project and The Co-operative, and is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
What will I have to do?
As an Ambassador, you will be a leading voice in your community to fight extreme poverty. You will be trained to deliver the world renowned 1.4 Billion Reasons presentation which clearly, simply and deeply explains the reality of extreme poverty, progress that is being made in the fight against extreme poverty and what individuals can do in response. You will also take part in a series of monthly actions which will inform you about the issues surrounding extreme poverty and provide you with meaningful actions to take around a range of issues such as ending preventable child deaths, ethical fashion, good governance and fair trade. These actions may include be anything from writing to your local MP or calling up your local radio station.
How much time will it take?
That depends on you - we would really love for you to own this programme and make it is big as you can carry on your shoulders. We do however ask for Ambassadors to commit a minimum of 10 hours a month, this will include learning the presentation, monthly conference call, learning about various different international development issues and taking action. You'll also have engaging conversations of ending extreme poverty with people you meet and take action on campaigns we are passionate about.
