As part of its core work, AYAC is committed to building capacity of young people party by championing and investing in youth led organisations.  We want to help ensure that the youth led sector is supported and resourced to make a genuine and lasting contribution to Australian society. Youth led organisations are keen to widen their membership and reach to "disadvantaged" young people but do not currently have the capacity to engage these groups.

In December 2011, AYAC invites youth led organisations to apply for one of six one-off grants of up to $2500 to youth led organisations for projects, events, activities and programs that directly engage with either:

  • Young people with disabilities,
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people,
  • Rural and remote young people,
  • CALD young people,
  • Any other currently disengaged group of young people.

All projects must satisfy all of the following criteria:

  • Innovative, creative ideas, which trial new ways of engaging new groups of young people.
  • Projects that encourage young people to get involved in youth-led organisations and develop their skills.
  • Projects that develop a final resource (i.e. written or visual) describing the project model, process and any results.
  • Projects that are supported by and partner with community and social services groups that already work with your target group of young people.
  • Youth led organisations that can demonstrate that the project is identified and led by young people.
  • Projects that provide a plan, timeline and budget.

Funding Process

  • The grant available to successful applicants will be a maximum of $2,500.
  • Any youth-led organisation can apply.
  • Applications should address all the relevant criteria.
  • Successful applicants will be notified by telephone and a formal letter of offer containing an acceptance form, which must be returned prior to funding being allocated.
  • Funding will be distributed to successful applicants at the beginning of February 2012.  Projects are expected to take place from February to May.  Evaluation of projects will take place in June.
