Program Details
Program Overview
The IYLP is a unique and exciting opportunity for young Indigenous Australians (21 - 30 years) to enhance their leadership and vocational skills through personal development, community development, work experience, education and by building cross cultural awareness and understanding.
The IYLP teams have the opportunity to work, share experiences and develop relationships with other young Indigenous Australian and local Ni-Vanuatu youth, as well as various Indigenous communities in Vanuatu.
Funded by the federal government's Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA), this program provides young Indigenous Australians with the opportunity to gain valuable leadership and community development experience.
This is a volunteer role, however the participation fee and all project related travel costs for IYLP volunteers and field staff are funded by FaHCSIA. Reasonable equipment, medical and other project costs are also covered.
The Volunteer Experience
Through involvement with the IYLP, Indigenous Australian youth build practical skills in leadership, communication, negotiation, mediation, teamwork, project management, planning, reporting, cross cultural understanding, financial management and results management. The YCA IYLP provides benefits to young Indigenous Australians, the Ni-Vanuatu communities where they work, as well as the broader communities of Australia and Vanuatu.
If you feel that you are open minded, enthusiastic, passionate about youth, work well in a team, and you want to experience working on an international community development project, please consider applying to participate as a volunteer or Field Staff on the next IYLP in Vanuatu. Head to http://www.youthchallenge.org.au/YCA-Application to find the online application.
