About the YES
The Youth Experience Study is an Australian research project that investigates influences on wellbeing during adolescence. It looks at connections- to family, friends, peers and school- to identify how these relationships affect adolescent life. The study also explores the connection between emotions and behaviours, to see how these things influence each other.
The research team
This study is being conducted as a partial requirement for a PhD for student researcher Ms Lisa Thomsen, enrolled through the Key Centre for Ethics, Law, Justice and Governance at Griffith University, Mt Gravatt. The research is guided by supervisors Professor Ross Homel and Dr Kate Freiberg.
Who can participate?
This study will be based on information collected in a survey of Australian adolescents aged 13 to 17.
Why should I participate?
As researchers, we are interested in understanding the adolescent experience, that is, what is going on for young people at this stage of their lives. We want to know what is important to you and what things are troubling you. We believe that the best way to gather this information is to ask young people themselves. The survey takes between 20 and 30 minutes to complete.
What's in it for me?
By completing the survey you will have the opportunity to make your voice heard and this will help people understand what it is like to be an adolescent today. Data from the study will be an important source of information for anyone wanting to design programs or interventions aimed at improving adolescent wellbeing. This means that by simply completing a survey you have the ability to influence decision making which may affect young people in the future. Also, after completing the survey you will have the option of entering into a raffled prize draw to win a $50 Coles/Myer gift card.
Head to http://www.youthexperiencestudy.com/?page_id=13 to complete the survey online.
