Schools 4 Schools was launched by The Oaktree Foundation in 2007 with the goal of providing life changing opportunities for young people in developing communities and creating a generation of global citizens among young Australians through dynamic school partnerships. This is a program that gives Australian students the opportunity to see and understand the impact they can have on the lives of students in the developing world.
The program includes:
-Partner School program
-Affiliated School Network
-State Conferences
-International Speakers
-School Fundraising
-Educational modules delivered in schools
-Ambassador challenge to Cambodia
The role of a mentor:
You will be responsible for managing the Oaktree group in a particular school, facilitating student's learning and discussion, overseeing the students' event planning and teaching students about their partner school and aid and development more broadly using the curriculum designed by the national team. In addition you will manage the relationship with school administrators and contact teachers and participate in the broader activities of the State Schools 4 Schools Team and State Branch.
Skills required:
You must be passionate about educating young people and committed to making a difference with the ability to motivate and inspire High School students. The ideal candidate would be interested in aid and development with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, high problem solving ability and high levels of intrinsic motivation. Reliabilty and the capacity to work both independently and in a team is also essential.
What you get out of it:
-Practical experience in a rapidly growing aid and development organisation
-Professional development in the skill of facilitation
-The opportunity to make a tangible difference to the lives of young people
-The opportunity to inspire, educate and equip High School students.
-The opportunity to develop a network of similarly passionate young people
