Who is UN Women Australia?
UN Women is dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their rights worldwide. UN Women Australia is the National Committee for UN Women in Australia and is committed to supporting UN Women through advocacy, public education and fundraising for global women's issues.
UN Women Australia is seeking one or two Communications Interns, working either full time or two days per week  tarting Tuesday, November 1st until Tuesday, January 31st.

Policy and Government Relations
Hours:
20-25 hours per week
Location:
Canberra
Duration:
3-4 months (1st October 2011 to 31st January 2012).

Key Attributes
Essential

  • Completed a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations, Public Policy, Development Studies, Gender or Women's Issues, or other related discipline
  • Strong familiarity with gender discourses and frameworks relating to human rights and development
  • Experience in various research methods and structures including proper referencing
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work cooperatively within a small-team


Desirable but not essential

  • Experience in policy analysis
  • Understanding of government processes
  • Previous knowledge of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
  • Experience in writing government submissions


Main Tasks

  • Research and draft the organisation's budget submission
  • Draft key resources for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
  • Attending meetings with Executive Director regarding the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
  • Work with the Youth Delegate to update the advocacy kit for young women for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
  • Summarise expert paper on the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
  • Support UN Women Australia's engagement in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM)
  • Assist with research for policy based submissions when or if required
  • Writing advocacy letters as required

UN Women Australia is seeking one or two Communications Interns, working either full time or two days per week  tarting Tuesday, November 1st until Tuesday, January 31st.

Policy and Government Relations
Hours:
20-25 hours per week
Location:
Canberra
Duration:
3-4 months (1st October 2011 to 31st January 2012).

Key Attributes
Essential

  • Completed a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations, Public Policy, Development Studies, Gender or Women's Issues, or other related discipline
  • Strong familiarity with gender discourses and frameworks relating to human rights and development
  • Experience in various research methods and structures including proper referencing
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work cooperatively within a small-team


Desirable but not essential

  • Experience in policy analysis
  • Understanding of government processes
  • Previous knowledge of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
  • Experience in writing government submissions


Main Tasks

  • Research and draft the organisation's budget submission
  • Draft key resources for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
  • Attending meetings with Executive Director regarding the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
  • Work with the Youth Delegate to update the advocacy kit for young women for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
  • Summarise expert paper on the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
  • Support UN Women Australia's engagement in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM)
  • Assist with research for policy based submissions when or if required
  • Writing advocacy letters as required
