Who is UN Women Australia?
UN Women is dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their rights worldwide. UN Women Australia is the National Committee for UN Women in Australia and is committed to supporting UN Women through advocacy, public education and fundraising for global women's issues.
UN Women Australia is seeking one or two Communications Interns, working either full time or two days per week  tarting Tuesday, November 1st until Tuesday, January 31st.

Communications Intern

Hours: Full Time or 2 days per week
Location: Canberra
Duration: 3 months (1st November to 31st January)

The Communications Intern(s) will work with the Director of Operations to increase the effectiveness of the organisation's communications materials and ensure that the organisation is keeping abreast of what is happening in the sector and communicating this with UN Women Australia's members and supporters. The Communications Intern will support the implementation of key campaigns, such as International Women's Day and the Spring Campaign.

Key Attributes

  • In final year of or have completed a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or similar.
  • Experience in digital content management, ideally in a non-government environment.
  • Experience in Social Media, ideally in a non-government environment.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and results orientated.
  • Experience working with a small team, good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve goals.

Main Tasks

  • Monitor media related to gender and development and source contacts for inclusion in UN Women Australia's Communications Strategy.
  • Updating and building UN Women Australia's Social Media presence on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
  • Assisting in the final stages of development of the new UN Women Australia website and updating as appropriate.
  • Drafting media releases and pitches.
  • Drafting of E-Bulletins.
  • Drafting of other communications, such as the Annual Report.
  • Compiling a monthly Communications, Website and Social Media Reports.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of key campaigns, including International Women's Day, the Spring Campaign and Report Launches.

UN Women Australia is seeking one or two Communications Interns, working either full time or two days per week  tarting Tuesday, November 1st until Tuesday, January 31st.

Communications Intern

Hours: Full Time or 2 days per week
Location: Canberra
Duration: 3 months (1st November to 31st January)

The Communications Intern(s) will work with the Director of Operations to increase the effectiveness of the organisation's communications materials and ensure that the organisation is keeping abreast of what is happening in the sector and communicating this with UN Women Australia's members and supporters. The Communications Intern will support the implementation of key campaigns, such as International Women's Day and the Spring Campaign.

Key Attributes

  • In final year of or have completed a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or similar.
  • Experience in digital content management, ideally in a non-government environment.
  • Experience in Social Media, ideally in a non-government environment.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and results orientated.
  • Experience working with a small team, good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve goals.

Main Tasks

  • Monitor media related to gender and development and source contacts for inclusion in UN Women Australia's Communications Strategy.
  • Updating and building UN Women Australia's Social Media presence on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
  • Assisting in the final stages of development of the new UN Women Australia website and updating as appropriate.
  • Drafting media releases and pitches.
  • Drafting of E-Bulletins.
  • Drafting of other communications, such as the Annual Report.
  • Compiling a monthly Communications, Website and Social Media Reports.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of key campaigns, including International Women's Day, the Spring Campaign and Report Launches.
