Position Summary 

Red Cross is the largest humanitarian volunteer organisation in the world, with millions of members and volunteers. Young people are an invaluable resource, with their capacity to think big, take risks, and link into extensive and varied networks. As the youth network of Red Cross grows, so will its ability to positively impact our community in innovative and lasting ways. Universities are a largely untapped resource when it comes to nurturing this innovation, and Red Cross is developing an avenue for pioneering and proactive young humanitarians to make a direct impact on their social environment.

Position Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • The Red Cross Student Liaison intern will be responsible for devising a framework to establish Red Cross University Clubs across NSW.
  • The Student Liaison will act as an ambassador for Red Cross across NSW universities.
  • The Student Liaison will liaise with university unions in order to determine the processes of becoming an affiliated club, the support offered by universities to their clubs.
  • The Student Liaison will develop a rapport with unions in order to facilitate the establishment of university clubs.
  • The Student Liaison will work with Red Cross to identify and support students who are willing to pioneer the university club and act as the executive.
  • The Student Liaison will work with Red Cross to develop a 'start-up' kit including information, contact details, presentations where needed, and support in executing some initial activities, such as social events or information sessions.

Position Selection Criteria

Competencies

  • Interest in the humanitarian work of Red Cross
  • Ability to devise innovative means of encouraging young people to establish a Red Cross Club
  • Proven highly developed organisational and time management skills
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including with people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Proficiency in MS Office or similar software

Conditions

  • 5-10 hours per week, minimum 12 weeks
  • Candidate may be required to travel across the state

  • Assist the organisation on occasion, in times of national, state or local emergencies or major disasters

Position Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • The Red Cross Student Liaison intern will be responsible for devising a framework to establish Red Cross University Clubs across NSW.
  • The Student Liaison will act as an ambassador for Red Cross across NSW universities.
  • The Student Liaison will liaise with university unions in order to determine the processes of becoming an affiliated club, the support offered by universities to their clubs.
  • The Student Liaison will develop a rapport with unions in order to facilitate the establishment of university clubs.
  • The Student Liaison will work with Red Cross to identify and support students who are willing to pioneer the university club and act as the executive.
  • The Student Liaison will work with Red Cross to develop a 'start-up' kit including information, contact details, presentations where needed, and support in executing some initial activities, such as social events or information sessions.

Position Selection Criteria

Competencies

  • Interest in the humanitarian work of Red Cross
  • Ability to devise innovative means of encouraging young people to establish a Red Cross Club
  • Proven highly developed organisational and time management skills
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including with people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Proficiency in MS Office or similar software

Conditions

  • 5-10 hours per week, minimum 12 weeks
  • Candidate may be required to travel across the state

All Red Cross staff and volunteers are required to:

  • Adhere to the 7 fundamental principles of Red Cross:

  • Act at all times in accordance with the Code of Conduct
  • Comply with the Work Health and Safety management system
  • Undertake a police check prior to commencement and every 3 years thereafter
  • Support a child safe organisation by undertaking screening for suitability to work with children, youth and vulnerable people and to comply with relevant state/territory legislative requirements
  • Assist the organisation on occasion, in times of national, state or local emergencies or major disasters
