AYCC Power Shift Interns

What is Power Shift?
Power Shift 2011 will be the moment when our generation comes together and starts the transformation we need to become a nation powered by renewable energy. In September and October 2011, thousands of young people will come together for two incredible summits in Perth and Brisbane. Together we'll engage with the solutions,make our voice heard, and launcha campaign to transform the country.

About the AYCC
The Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC) is a coalition of Australia's largest youth organisations and over 60,000 young people from across Australia. AYCC's mission is to build a generation wide movement to solve climate change before it's too late. AYCC focuses on both short--‐termpolitical impact and long--‐term cultural change. Since it's founding in 006, AYCC has become one of Australia's most effective and efficient social change organisations. Major projects have included:

  • Powershift 2009 - Australia's first national youth climate summit, with 1500 youth
  • Youth Decide - the world's first national youth vote on climate change
  • AYCC International - sending Australian youth delegations to the UN climate conference in Bali, Poznan and Copenhagen.
  • Switched on Schools - a national schools program of speakers, school conferences and mentoring
  • Adopt a Politician - our 2007 federal election campaign
  • Non--‐partisan 2010 federal election campaign to encourage young people to think about climate change when they cast their ballot, including the ‘engaging campaign show-stopper' the Climate Elephant! AYCC gives voice to Australian youth on climate change issues. The AYCC leadership and members regularly meet with decision makers including federal Ministers, MPs, senior business people and heads of environment and other social organisations.


Role Context
This year the AYCC is running two massive Power Shift summits, for over 1300 young people.Together these two summits are going to be the biggest ever youth mobilisation in Australia. The Power Shift Interns will work in the National Support Office to help make Power Shift happen. During your two month internship, you will support the General Manager of AYCC, as well as the Power Shift Staff in driving the promotion and logistics of Power Shift 2011. The roles are Melbourne based, 2-3 day per week.

Power Shift Intern

Reports To
General Manager of AYCC

Key responsibilities
Power Shift Interns will be at the heart of the Power Shift team. As an Intern you'll be getting your handsdirty in the cut and thrust of making the larges youth mobilisation in Australian history a reality. The Power Shift Intern will be responsible in assisting the General Manager and the Power Shift staff teamin the promotion and logistics of Power Shift. This will involve:

  • Coordinating distribution of marketing materials to State teams and on the ground promoters
  • Preparing basic training documents (e.g. call out scripts) for on the ground promoters
  • Managing scholarship applications
  • Assisting with outreach to indigenous and regional young people
  • Assisting with financial and budget management

Experience
The ideal candidate will be a young person aged between 20 and 28 and able to commit to at least two days per week for two months. In addition To this, he or she will have:

  • A demonstrated commitment to and passion for taking action to avert climate change
  • A demonstrated ability to work in teams, support in managing projects and sound presentation skills.

Competencies
Qualified candidates for this position will therefore need to demonstrate the following competencies:
1. Possess a passion for working with young people and volunteers.
2. Values a collaborative, flexible work style.
3. Understands and is committed to the mission and values of the AYCC.

Personal characteristics
An organised and energetic individual dedicated to stopping climate change before it's too late; exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task manage with a high level of attention to detail; humility, self-awareness and the desire to continue to develop.

AYCC National Office, Trades Hall, Carlton, Melbourne.

AYCC Power Shift Interns

What is Power Shift?
Power Shift 2011 will be the moment when our generation comes together and starts the transformation we need to become a nation powered by renewable energy. In September and October 2011, thousands of young people will come together for two incredible summits in Perth and Brisbane. Together we'll engage with the solutions,make our voice heard, and launcha campaign to transform the country.

About the AYCC
The Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC) is a coalition of Australia's largest youth organisations and over 60,000 young people from across Australia. AYCC's mission is to build a generation wide movement to solve climate change before it's too late. AYCC focuses on both short--‐termpolitical impact and long--‐term cultural change. Since it's founding in 006, AYCC has become one of Australia's most effective and efficient social change organisations. Major projects have included:

  • Powershift 2009 - Australia's first national youth climate summit, with 1500 youth
  • Youth Decide - the world's first national youth vote on climate change
  • AYCC International - sending Australian youth delegations to the UN climate conference in Bali, Poznan and Copenhagen.
  • Switched on Schools - a national schools program of speakers, school conferences and mentoring
  • Adopt a Politician - our 2007 federal election campaign
  • Non--‐partisan 2010 federal election campaign to encourage young people to think about climate change when they cast their ballot, including the ‘engaging campaign show-stopper' the Climate Elephant! AYCC gives voice to Australian youth on climate change issues. The AYCC leadership and members regularly meet with decision makers including federal Ministers, MPs, senior business people and heads of environment and other social organisations.


Role Context
This year the AYCC is running two massive Power Shift summits, for over 1300 young people.Together these two summits are going to be the biggest ever youth mobilisation in Australia. The Power Shift Interns will work in the National Support Office to help make Power Shift happen. During your two month internship, you will support the General Manager of AYCC, as well as the Power Shift Staff in driving the promotion and logistics of Power Shift 2011. The roles are Melbourne based, 2-3 day per week.

Power Shift Intern

Reports To

Key responsibilities
Power Shift Interns will be at the heart of the Power Shift team. As an Intern you'll be getting your handsdirty in the cut and thrust of making the larges youth mobilisation in Australian history a reality. The Power Shift Intern will be responsible in assisting the General Manager and the Power Shift staff teamin the promotion and logistics of Power Shift. This will involve:

  • Coordinating distribution of marketing materials to State teams and on the ground promoters
  • Preparing basic training documents (e.g. call out scripts) for on the ground promoters
  • Managing scholarship applications
  • Assisting with outreach to indigenous and regional young people
  • Assisting with financial and budget management

Experience
The ideal candidate will be a young person aged between 20 and 28 and able to commit to at least two days per week for two months. In addition To this, he or she will have:

  • A demonstrated commitment to and passion for taking action to avert climate change
  • A demonstrated ability to work in teams, support in managing projects and sound presentation skills.

Competencies
Qualified candidates for this position will therefore need to demonstrate the following competencies:
1. Possess a passion for working with young people and volunteers.
2. Values a collaborative, flexible work style.
3. Understands and is committed to the mission and values of the AYCC.

Personal characteristics
An organised and energetic individual dedicated to stopping climate change before it's too late; exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task manage with a high level of attention to detail; humility, self-awareness and the desire to continue to develop.

AYCC National Office, Trades Hall, Carlton, Melbourne.
