Convenor - Victorian Schools Network
Brief description of position:
Amnesty International is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to take up the role of Convenor - Victorian Schools Network.
The network convenor will lead a team of dedicated youth activists in producing speaking engagements, workshops and events on human rights for Victorian school students.
The convenor is also responsible for maintaining relationships with Victorian schools, coordinating engagements with schools and facilitating internal meetings and communications for the schools network.
This is a fantastic opportunity to inspire young people to take action on human rights.
Hours:
Approx 5 hours a week
Reporting Relationship:
This role liaises directly with the Community Campaigner Vic and the Community Campaigns Assistant Vic
Required:
•Knowledge of Amnesty International and a commitment to human rights
•An understanding of the political, social and cultural environment in which Amnesty International operates
•Ability to enthuse and communicate with young people
•Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a diverse team
•Proven initiative and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
•Previous volunteering experience
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Organised and punctual
•Sound computer skills
•Time commitment of approx 5 hours per work
Desirable:
•Previous experience working with youth and/or schools
•Existing relationships with Victorian schools
•Previous experience coordinating volunteers
•Event management
Regular duties
•Sustaining and developing relationships with Victorian schools
•Developing school engagement strategy
•Coordinating speaking engagements, workshops and events for Victorian school students on human rights
•Recruiting and inducting Schools Network members
•Facilitating internal meetings and communications within the Schools Network
•Liaising with Amnesty's Victorian Community Campaigns Team
Training and assistance provided
•Amnesty induction including background, operations, values and vision
•Training in convening an activist network
•Training in delivering activism on Amnesty campaigns
•Campaign materials will be provided
•Attendance at relevant conferences and events will be supported
