LOCATION: Queensland
RESPONSIBLE TO: Jem Bamford (QLD’s National Grassroots Co-ordinator)
TIME COMMITMENT: 3 days a week, 12 month commitment required
SALARY: This is a volunteer role. Reimbursement is available for associated expenses.
ABOUT THE AYCC
Established in early 2007, The Australian Youth Climate Coalition (www.aycc.org.au) unites over 60,000 young Australians and all major Australian youth organisations to build a generation wide movement to solve the climate crisis. We educate, empower, inspire and mobilise young Australians to solve climate change, through short-term political impact and long-term cultural change. See www.aycc.org.au for more information.
ABOUT THE AYCC QLD
The AYCC’s QLD grassroots network began growing at the start of 2010. It has been responsible for implementing national projects, co-ordinating state-based projects, and has also run independent events, campaigns and fundraisers. The AYCC QLD is highly dynamic and has evolved a great deal into an active, creative and talented part of the climate movement. The structure continues to develop, and a number of core volunteers play crucial roles in working with and expanding the AYCC’s base of committed volunteers, and the hundreds of people who have been involved in our activity. We are seeking applications for the role of QLD State Co-ordinator to lead AYCC QLD in bringing the national Power Shift conference to Brisbane this October and (through Power Shift and beyond) to develop the AYCC’s power and capacity in QLD. This role will be responsible for leading the AYCC’s body of grassroots volunteers in QLD, exercising strategic foresight to anticipate challenges and opportunities, building organisational relationships in QLD, and liaising with the National Office on strategy and projects.
ABOUT POWER SHIFT 2011
This October the second-ever national Power Shift is coming to Brisbane – bringing together over 1000 young people from across Australia to be inspired, network, skill-up and return to their communities to organise locally in a national campaign. These three transformative days will catapult AYCC QLD into a whole new level and size of organizing. See www.powershift.org.au for more information.
ABOUT THE ROLE
An AYCC QLD State Co-Ordinator needs to have a deep passion and commitment to solving climate change. Further, the AYCC’s Theory of Change should match up closely with the Co-Ordinator. The role is both challenging and immensely rewarding. Constantly aiming to improve the volunteer experience and amplifying AYCC QLD’s impact requires creativity, co-operation and self belief. Managing volunteers successfully also requires sophisticated social skills and empathy. The Co-Ordinator is responsible for AYCC QLD decision-making, and decision-making processes. With national assistance, they make decisions on how the AYCC can be most effective in solving climate change in QLD. The role is a fantastic opportunity to develop many and varied skills with lasting benefits. Power Shift 2011 will be a massive event this October, and will require the chosen candidate to ‘hit the ground running’ as the on-the-ground member of the dynamic and fast-paced National Recruitment Team.
