POSITION AVAILABLE: - AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT INDIGENOUS YOUNG PERSON NATIONAL YOUTH WEEK MEMBER
The Australian Government Office for Youth is seeking a young Indigenous
(18–25 years) person to be a member of the National Youth Week 2012 National Planning Group (NPG).
The purpose of the NPG is to plan and coordinate National Youth Week (NYW) and to provide advice and where appropriate make recommendations regarding NYW to the Youth Working Group, which currently sits under the Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs (MCEECDYA).
As the Australian Government Indigenous Young Member for NYW 2012, you will play an important role in providing advice that could lead to increased engagement and participation of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in NYW 2012. You will have input into the planning, promotion, implementation and evaluation of National Youth Week 2012 at a national level. The successful applicant would possess the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous Australians.
The person selected would have an ongoing role throughout the year (August 2011 to July 2012) working closely with the Office for Youth.
The person selected may be required to:
• Act as a spokesperson for NYW (including possible media interviews)
• Participate in the promotion of NYW
• Participate in teleconferences
• Attend meetings where possible
• Attend NYW events during NYW 2012 (14 to 22 April 2012-TBC)
• Be contactable by email and able to respond to email requests as required.
This is an unsalaried position, however the Office for Youth will cover accommodation, travel and related costs for attending Australian Government organised events and NYW events.
NPG meetings are generally held via teleconference on a monthly basis with regular communication via email. Face-to-face meetings may also be held.
