Left Right Think-Tank is currently seeking an energetic and optimistic young person to work within the Queensland Communications Team as the Promotions Officer. The role will report to the Communications Manager. The position is a volunteer role for a minimum period of 5 months commencing in August 2011. Volunteers must be aged between 15 and 24 years old and be able to meet regularly in Brisbane.

Candidates with a strong interest / background in marketing, advertising or communications are encouraged to apply. Applicants that are detailoriented, who love working in a team, as well as injecting large scale projects with the "wowfactor" are particularly sought.

Left Right is committed to accommodating the needs of its volunteers and recognises that young people have numerous competing demands on their time. It is important, however, that applicants are able to dedicate time to Left Right on a weekly basis. This volunteer position as Promotions Officer will be required to do 15 hours/week on average. The position is voluntary and can be fulfilled through a mixture of working from home and attending meetings with staff and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

  • Helping attract young people to Left Right's events and consultations
  • Archiving and documenting relevant marketing material
  • Implement a State based marketing strategy that promotes Left Right Queensland's events and programs
  • Identify and develop marketing and promotion opportunities from conception through to delivery
  • Take responsibility for specific campaigns as agreed with the marketing manager
  • Ensure that all printed promotional material is distributed effectively throughout company departments and to the company board to include posters and leaflets.

Selection criteria:

  • A demonstrated interest in marketing, promotions, or communications;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to commit for the required project time.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Flexible and able to work to deadlines / under pressure.
  • Capacity to think creatively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - with the capacity and confidence to deal with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • An interest in public policy or experience working in a youth organisation would
