Left Right Think-Tank is currently seeking an energetic, optimistic and outcome-oriented young person to work within the Queensland Team as the Programs Manager. The Programs Manager will help shape the organisation as an influential and innovative think-tank throughout Australia by overseeing the Programs of the QLD Team.  The successful candidate will play a key leadership role at the state level through overseeing the administration and delivery of an ambitious and strategic Programs agenda. The role will report to the Queensland State Director and also require frequent consultation with the National Programs Director. The position is a volunteer role for a minimum period of 12 months commencing in August 2011. Applicants must be aged between 15 and 24 years old and be able to meet regularly in Brisbane.

Left Right is committed to accommodating the needs of its volunteer staff members and recognises that young people have numerous competing demands on their time. It is important, however, that applicants are able to dedicate time to Left Right on a weekly basis. The Programs Manager will be required to do 15 hours/week on average. The position is voluntary and can be fulfilled through a mixture of working from home, attending meetings with staff and stakeholders, plus meetings at our office in Fortitude Valley.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversight of all programs run by Left Right Think-Tank in QLD, including all administrative, logistical and communications matters relating to programs.
  • Managing a strong and diverse program teams, responsible for:
  • Delivering a regular Policy Managers Dinners Program, providing high level and personal engagement opportunities for young people with policy makers;
  • Delivering the Consultation and Engagement Program, running a long term program to reach out to young people and support the consultation input to the Policy Fellowship;
  • Contributing to the delivery of the inaugural State Conference;
  • Developing the Rural and Regional Engagement Program, running an engagement program with young people in the Toowoomba).
  • Consulting regularly with the National Programs Director regarding issues associated with state based program implementation and developments regarding Left Right programs nationwide.
  • Providing high-level organisational and strategic advice to the State Director on Programs issues in a comprehensive and thoughtful manner.
  • Liaising with businesses, universities, schools and community groups to develop awareness of Left Right's state based Programs and the organisation as a whole.

Selection criteria:

  • Leadership experience or potential with a strong commitment to quality, an exceptional focus on outcomes and an energetic and motivated approach.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the proven ability to prepare high-quality documentation and the capacity and confidence to deal with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated organisational and management skills with the ability to plan, coordinate and execute tasks and projects through to completion whilst meeting deadlines, balancing competing demands and having a specific attention to detail.
  • Versatility, flexibility, enthusiasm and a high-level of self-motivation and initiative, both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Highly competent computer skills with knowledge, experience and advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including tact, discretion and ability to deal with confidential matters.
  • Ability to work with limited direction to initiate procedures, set priorities and manage tasks.

The Programs Manager will help shape the organisation as an influential and innovative think-tank throughout Australia by overseeing the Programs of the QLD Team.  The successful candidate will play a key leadership role at the state level through overseeing the administration and delivery of an ambitious and strategic Programs agenda. Left Right is committed to accommodating the needs of its volunteer staff members and recognises that young people have numerous competing demands on their time. It is important, however, that applicants are able to dedicate time to Left Right on a weekly basis. The Programs Manager will be required to do 15 hours/week on average. The position is voluntary and can be fulfilled through a mixture of working from home, attending meetings with staff and stakeholders, plus meetings at our office in Fortitude Valley.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversight of all programs run by Left Right Think-Tank in QLD, including all administrative, logistical and communications matters relating to programs.
  • Managing a strong and diverse program teams, responsible for:
  • Delivering a regular Policy Managers Dinners Program, providing high level and personal engagement opportunities for young people with policy makers;
  • Delivering the Consultation and Engagement Program, running a long term program to reach out to young people and support the consultation input to the Policy Fellowship;
  • Contributing to the delivery of the inaugural State Conference;
  • Developing the Rural and Regional Engagement Program, running an engagement program with young people in the Toowoomba).
  • Consulting regularly with the National Programs Director regarding issues associated with state based program implementation and developments regarding Left Right programs nationwide.
  • Providing high-level organisational and strategic advice to the State Director on Programs issues in a comprehensive and thoughtful manner.
  • Liaising with businesses, universities, schools and community groups to develop awareness of Left Right's state based Programs and the organisation as a whole.

Selection criteria:

  • Leadership experience or potential with a strong commitment to quality, an exceptional focus on outcomes and an energetic and motivated approach.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the proven ability to prepare high-quality documentation and the capacity and confidence to deal with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated organisational and management skills with the ability to plan, coordinate and execute tasks and projects through to completion whilst meeting deadlines, balancing competing demands and having a specific attention to detail.
  • Versatility, flexibility, enthusiasm and a high-level of self-motivation and initiative, both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Highly competent computer skills with knowledge, experience and advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including tact, discretion and ability to deal with confidential matters.
  • Ability to work with limited direction to initiate procedures, set priorities and manage tasks.
