The Media Relations Officer will be jointly responsible for the implementation of a state based communications strategy that maximises public awareness of the organisation within Queensland, specifically via the media. The role will necessitate frequent engagement with key stakeholders in the nationʼs public policy, business and media communities. It will have particular responsibility for building trusted relationships with journalists and other media contacts. Reporting to the Queensland Communications Manager, this role will also involve frequent consultation and collaboration with state and national communications staff within Left Right Think-Tank.

Candidates with a strong interest / background in marketing, advertising or communications are encouraged to apply.Applicants that are detailoriented, who love working in a team, as well as injecting large scale projects with the "wowfactor" are particularly sought.

Key responsibilities:

  • Implement a state based communications strategy that best promotes Left Right policy output, events and programs in addition to the overall key aims and objectives of the organisation to the target audience.
  • Ensuring that all state communications messages are effectively contributing to the National Communications Strategy.
  • Identifying communications opportunities through the media and working with the State Leadership Team deliver core organisational messages.
  • Overseeing and coordinating the targeting and implementation of all State outreach through the production of media releases as well as drafting, pitching and placing articles and other mediated pieces.
  • Developing and maintaining strong, trustworthy relationships with an emphasis on state and local media - particularly writers, editors, editorial boards and producers who are within the elite media industry.
  • Ensuring all media coverage regarding the state branch is tracked and periodically evaluated to determine the effectiveness of the state's overall communications strategy.

Selection criteria:

  • A demonstrated interest in journalism, public relations, or the media through relevant experience or specific qualifications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to prepare high-quality documentation and the capacity and confidence to deal with a wide range of stakeholders, including the ability to distil salient facts from large or complex bodies of information, manage briefings from senior staff and gather crucial information in a short period of time.
  • Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills with the ability to plan, coordinate and execute tasks and projects through to completion whilst meeting deadlines, balancing competing demands and having a specific attention to detail.
  • Highly competent computer skills with knowledge, experience and advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to work with limited direction to initiate procedures, set priorities and manage tasks.
  • Ability to commit to 8-10 hours per week, with a minimum commitment of 12 months.

Left Right Think-Tank is cur­rently seeking an energetic, optimistic and media-minded young person to work within the Queensland Communications Team as the Media Relations Officer. Candidates with a strong interest / background in marketing, advertising or communications are encouraged to apply.Applicants that are detailoriented, who love working in a team, as well as injecting large scale projects with the "wowfactor" are particularly sought.

Key responsibilities:

  • Implement a state based communications strategy that best promotes Left Right policy output, events and programs in addition to the overall key aims and objectives of the organisation to the target audience.
  • Ensuring that all state communications messages are effectively contributing to the National Communications Strategy.
  • Identifying communications opportunities through the media and working with the State Leadership Team deliver core organisational messages.
  • Overseeing and coordinating the targeting and implementation of all State outreach through the production of media releases as well as drafting, pitching and placing articles and other mediated pieces.
  • Developing and maintaining strong, trustworthy relationships with an emphasis on state and local media - particularly writers, editors, editorial boards and producers who are within the elite media industry.
  • Ensuring all media coverage regarding the state branch is tracked and periodically evaluated to determine the effectiveness of the state's overall communications strategy.

Selection criteria:

  • A demonstrated interest in journalism, public relations, or the media through relevant experience or specific qualifications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to prepare high-quality documentation and the capacity and confidence to deal with a wide range of stakeholders, including the ability to distil salient facts from large or complex bodies of information, manage briefings from senior staff and gather crucial information in a short period of time.
  • Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills with the ability to plan, coordinate and execute tasks and projects through to completion whilst meeting deadlines, balancing competing demands and having a specific attention to detail.
  • Highly competent computer skills with knowledge, experience and advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to work with limited direction to initiate procedures, set priorities and manage tasks.
  • Ability to commit to 8-10 hours per week, with a minimum commitment of 12 months.
