The Australian Youth Climate Coalition’s (AYCC) mission is to build a generation wide movement to solve the climate crisis. The Perth team are inspiring, educating and empowering WA youth on the greatest challenge of our time: dealing with climate change and creating a shift to a renewable future.
Part conference, part festival, Power Shift 2011 will be a three day youth climate summit, coming to Perth for the first time, 30th September to 2nd October. It will be a life transforming experience, educating, inspiring and empowering Perth youth on the greatest challenge of our time: dealing with climate change and creating a shift to a renewable future. With high profile global speakers, workshops, a green jobs fair and top Australian music acts, Power Shift will be a celebration of the opportunities the climate challenge offers us, delivering a message of hope and action.
AYCC Perth is looking for passionate, creative, hardworking and friendly people aged 16-29 to take on the following team roles. Positions are for until November and are on a voluntary basis.
Expected time: ~15 hours per week
Recruitment Coordinator: Coordinate the recruitment of team volunteers to help with the effective promotion, preparation and running of Power Shift. Your role will include coordinating the recruitment schedule, preparing role descriptions, coordinating the promotion of volunteer opportunities, scheduling and conducting interviews (for key roles) and coordinating the induction of new volunteers. This role will likely lead to a Volunteer Coordinator role at Power Shift.
Registrations Coordinator: Coordinate the registration of young people wanting to attend Power Shift and ensure that registered delegates have all the information and resources they need to be prepared for attending the summit. Your role will include liaising with the national Online Communications Director to ensure a suitable registration process, preparing delegate resources, liaising with delegates as required, including liaising with regional delegates and responding to their enquiries, managing the allocation of scholarships and arranging billeting and/or discount deals at local hostels/backpackers to assist regional delegates. This role will likely lead to a Delegate Liaison role at Power Shift.
Promotions Coordinator: Organise for Power Shift to be widely promoted around Perth and WA, online and offline, and finding creative ways to get the Power Shift name out there. Your role will include coordinating the creation and distribution of online and offline promotional material, organising presentations to other community groups, coordinating promotions volunteers, organising volunteer busy-bees and digital door-knocking sessions, and exploring other creative avenues of promotion. This role will likely lead to a Delegate Liaison role at Power Shift.
Equipment & Logistics Coordinator: Organise all physical equipment and logistics requirements in as sustainable way as feasible to create an amazing experience for all delegates, speakers and volunteers. Your role will include organising the equipment for on-the-day registration, speakers & workshop resources, event signage, catering and catering resources, delegate packs, transport options, waste management processes, green careers fair stall equipment and resources for the youth publicity stunt. This role will likely lead to an Equipment & Logistics Coordinator role at Power Shift.
Speaker Liaison: Liaising with all high profile guests, workshop facilitators, MCs, comedians, politicians, and anyone else who is speaking at Power Shift to ensure the program can unfold as planned. Your role will include contacting, inviting, confirming and following up speakers, juggling cancellations, preparing speaker briefing information, assisting with transport and accommodation arrangements (if required), and preparing speaker bios to go in the promotional material and delegate packs. This role will likely lead to a Speaker Liaison role at Power Shift.
